Tanni yowled. Her fur stuck to her, slick with sweat. She gripped the ground and growled, her stomach skquirming. She rolled in the den, but stopped and leaned back down. Beside her where two cubs, two beautiful females. She cleaned them quickly, and licked them carefully. Her sides heaved at te work, but she smiled down, super proud. Only one cub mewed, only one cub crawled towards her. Her eyes glazed with pain, and she pushed the cub behind her, caring for the one, healthy female.

Orion heard the yelping, and came quickly. He didn't know what to expect when he came rolling through the entrance to the den, but it certainty was not cubs. He saw Tanni carting for the one, but not the other. He walked over to the one that wasn't moving, and examined it. *female* he said to himself. He sniffed it, and listened for breathing. Nothing. *Dead* he whispered to himself, holding back a tear. Orion dismissed the sadness of the cub's loss, and turned his attention to his beautiful girls. Tanni was cleaning the little, nearly hairless cub, who was squirming, and wining. Well look at you. He said in a sweet, and loving tone. Your a mother. I said proudly, and and whispered, *And I couldn't be prouder.*

"Your a father" Tanni Purred "and I couldn't be prouder". The single cub squirmed, mewling loudly. "I've thought if some names" she continued' "what about Kalu?"

I smiled and nodded. Kalu is a beautiful name. I moved over, and nuzzled her.

I nodded my head and set it down., drifting to sleep beside Orion and Kalu. She heard the snores of little Kalu, and yawned loudly.

I didn't fall asleep. I stayed awake, listening, keeping watch. I didn't want anything to come and hurt my family,

Tanni dreamt of her lost cub. It's beautiful stripes darting over her flaming red fur. She whimpered but stayed still.

The morning crept into the den. Little rays of light darted through the cracks. Birds chirped, and the sound of leaves rustling, filled the air. Tanni was sleeping, but her tossing and turning signed a nightmare.

Tanni hissed and stretched, yawning as she uncurled from around her newborn cub. "My beautiful Kalu" she purred and rolled over so she could eat.

"Kalu,Kalu, sweet starlight" I hummed "burning,burning,burning bright, shining in the summer's nights" I licked her a yawned again. "Orion, do you mind catching me something, I've got more to feed ten myself!" She laughed.

I listened to Tanni's sweet singing. Then she asked for some, food, and I nodded.
A deer was grazing in the distance. But something wasn't right. I didn't want to come back Empty handed, so I made quick work of a hare that was hiding in the bushes. Slowly, and quietly, I came back into the den. Sorry, Tanni. Something isn't right. I'm going to check it out. Licking her on the nose, I darted back out of the den. I wasn't about to let something hurt my family.

"Thank you" I replied, but my eyes where wide, as I curled my tail protectively over Kalu. I wondered what was going on as he caustiosly left the den.
